Time Warner, in a strong show of support for the CUNY J-School, is providing $100,000 in scholarship stipends to deserving and needy students over the next two years.
Ten students will be designated Time Inc. Scholars, and receive $10,000 apiece to help defray second- and third-semester tuition and other expenses.
The students will be chosen by J-School officials based on first-semester performance.
Students currently in their first semester at the school will be eligible for the honor, as will members of the class that begins in September 2008.
The Time Inc. Scholars will be eligible to participate in special mentoring sessions with editors and managers at Time Inc. magazines.
In addition, Time Inc. will provide a number of paid summer internships for CUNY J-School students in 2008 and 2009. All students – whether Time Inc. Scholars or not – will be eligible to apply for the chance to spend the summer working at one of the media giant’s magazines.
"We are thrilled by Time Warner’s generosity and its vote of confidence in our school," said Dean Stephen B. Shepard. "This is an excellent opportunity for our students."
