Renowned broadcast journalist and author Tom Brokaw will be honored along with three students from the pioneering Class of 2007 at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism's first Excellence in Journalism Awards gala. The evening will kick off at the school's new state-of-the-art newsroom and continue at The Times Center next door. TV journalist and anchor Connie Chung will serve as mistress of ceremonies.

Brokaw, currently an NBC News Special Correspondent, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. In addition to anchoring NBC Nightly News for more than 21 years, he wrote several best-selling books, including "The Greatest Generation" about Americans who fought in World War II, and "Boom!: Voices of the Sixties, Personal Reflections on the '60s and Today."
The three CUNY J-school graduates selected for Excellence in Journalism Awards are Angela Hill, Danny Massey, and Tanzina Vega. "The award recognizes their achievement in their year and a half at the school," says Dean Stephen B. Shepard. "They were all at the top of their class, based on their journalistic ability, leadership potential, and grades."
Following a cocktail reception at the school, guests will proceed to the Times Center for dinner and the awards ceremony. Co-chairs for the evening will be Victor Ganzi, president and CEO of Hearst Corporation; Bruce Mosler, president and CEO of Cushman & Wakefield; international management consultant Jane Hartley, and Wall Street executive Ralph Schlosstein.
The event also has six media sponsors: Bloomberg, NBC News, Newsweek, The New York Observer, The New York Times Company, and Time Magazine.
